Support for those who served.
MAPS acts on behalf of former members of the Military, Police and Prison Service, offering confidential welfare, practical support and signposting through people who understand the ex-service community.
Who are we?
We act on behalf of a mainly forgotten population in one of the most socially deprived areas of Northern Ireland. We acknowledge that there are many more who served and still require support.
MAPS was formed in 2011 as an ex-services charity run by those who themselves served their community during the period commonly known as ‘The Troubles’ under Operation Banner.

Our befriending service offers help for those who are lonely, isolated or in need of support. Trained befrienders can visit people at home or in hospital, help with appointments or simply help someone get out for a short time.

The Duchess of Abercorn’s Veterans’ Garden Project
The project is about enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Baronscourt Estate and encouraging people to grow fruit and vegetables in a dedicated garden built by volunteers as part of horticultural therapy.
Gardening can help combat stress, provide exercise and create opportunities to socialise while enjoying food grown in the garden.
About the garden project“MAPS is a lifeline for former members of the security forces. It gives a voice to people who have been left marginalized and forgotten. We now have a Group represented by people who went through the same thing.”
“I have had the best year of my life since I retired from work. We are very grateful for the help and support that we have received and we will be telling others about this help and about West Tyrone MAPS.”
